Beasts, transformation, storytelling, and butch lesbians.

Izzy Shinn is Twin-Cities based printmaker and comic artist specializing in intaglio printmaking and ink illustration. Influenced by a variety of historical ephemera and visual styles (including but not limited to 15th-century illuminated manuscript and late 20th-century lesbian archival materials) Shinn creates interweaving worlds of characters and archetypes often with a strong emphasis on butch identity.

Shinn is interested in the intersection of archive and storytelling—documentary and genre fiction—and how narrative construction can be influenced and influence others with pointed visual symbols or styles. Fundamentally, their work centers on The complex nature of identity and locating oneself in the physical and metaphysical, mediating on fabricated folklore, false history objects, and the subsequent interpersonalities of things or people that do not exist—but perhaps could.
